16 weeks to go folks…how are you progressing?

It’s officially 16 weeks to go now folks…how are you travelling on your route to a podium finish?

Just like most things in life, the goals we set ourselves are always more important than any goal set by another party…and its just the same with this race.  We like to think that simply crossing the finish line is an achievement worth celebrating… that’s why every finisher gets the best trophy we could find; a bottle of Saint Clair Family Estate Vicar’s Choice bubbly.

But its also true that you only get back what you put into your endeavours.  We are often asked why we don’t introduce a 5 or 10km option and our answer remains the same.  Its because we believe that anyone can do a 21.1km Half Marathon, and we believe that goals should require something of us.

Any journey towards a goal has its ups and downs, its moment of celebration and its moments of desperation.  We’ve noticed that people come from all over New Zealand, Australia and even Canada (!) to do this event.  You are all out there doing your training for this one day, why not make the journey as much fun as the actual event?

If you are living in Blenheim you can join the Summer Running Series and run along the banks of the Taylor River every Tuesday night, and in Christchurch you can join Reece McCaffrey and his crew at the Recreate Gym.  Starting Monday Feb 18 they will be running a weekly training session for those that want to push themselves, or just train with company.  Its a great way to enjoy the journey.  There will be spot prizes including the odd bottle of Saint Clair wine (come on, its a well known training aid), Renaissance Brewing Co beer and other paraphernalia that you may want or need.

And don’t forget tomorrow the 16 week Nic Gill training program starts, as we’ve said, he’s one of the highest profile Fitness Coaches in the country and Training Peaks is some of the world’s best online training software.  Whatever your level you’ll do better using that combination.

Happy Training
