GetRunning Training Tip #4: Fueling

Posted:

Staying well hydrated is very important in a half marathon, and you should be planning to stop at the 5 water stops along the course at the Saint Clair Vineyard Half Marathon.

After 60 minutes of running you should be aiming to replace not only the water that you have lost through sweating but also the vital salts that your body needs. Taking on board an electrolyte replacement drink such as Peak Fuel Performance Hydration will ensure that you can perform at your best.

Taking on carbohydrates during the run will also top up the glycogen stores that will become depleted during the run. Peak Fuel Energy gels are an ideal product that you can use. On your longer training runs practice using gels and electrolyte drinks so that you can confidently use them during your race. The rule of thumb is not to do anything new on race day – so ensure that your system is well used to your race day fueling plans!
